What is filter-drier air conditioning?

Filter driers are HVAC system equipment that combines the functions of a filter and a dryer (or drier). A filter is used to keep particles like dirt, metal, and chips out of the refrigerant flow control system. A thermostatic expansion valve or a capillary tube might be used to regulate refrigerant flow.

The filter is also known as a strainer in some cases. It’s vital that these particles are filtered away and don’t enter the metering device. It can produce a clog in the refrigerant passage flow in the expansion valve, resulting in faulty system operation.

The term implies that a dryer is used to remove moisture from the refrigerant. It’s also referred to as a dehydrator or a drier. Moisture must be removed from the system; otherwise, it would freeze inside the tube, restricting the flow of refrigerant. When moisture comes into touch with the oil in the system, it creates acids and sludge.

High-capacity filter driers for air conditioning applications

The DMB/DCB bi-flow filter driers at Al Imran guarantee that refrigerant liquid flows from the outside edge of the filter core to the center of the filter drier. In this method, regardless of the flow direction, all dirt particles are kept.

These devices are typically found in larger systems with refrigerant circuits that are intended for field servicing. These devices are not used in residential units that are charged with refrigerant at the manufacture and completely sealed since the risk of moisture and particles entering the system is negligible.

Features and benefits of our filter driers

  • Filter driers with bi-flow.
  • Ensure that moisture, as well as organic and inorganic acids, are absorbed quickly and effectively.
  • By reversing the flow direction, no dirt is discharged.
  • The shell of the filter is UL certified for PS/MWP up to 46 bar/667 PSIG
  • Solder (CU-plated steel) and flare connectors are available.

When is the right time to replace your filter drier?

As mentioned earlier, a filter drier is required when an air conditioner or refrigeration equipment is installed. The filter drier remains in the system as long as the air conditioner is turned on. Replacement of the dryer should be considered if a refrigerator repair is required. Why is it necessary to replace the Drier?

Here are some of the reasons:

Is there any moisture on the sight glass? Was the refrigeration system exposed to the outside air? Was there any chance that moisture got into the system? Was the compressor damaged? Was there any evidence of extreme heat? Is the oil in the refrigerant acidic? Is it possible that dirt or metal particles are present in the system?

Replacing the Drier should be on your “to-do” list if you answered yes to any of these questions. A suction-line drier is also advised if there is any acid in the system (as determined by an acid test kit). Remember not to heat the dryer to solder it while reinstalling it. This has the potential to free whatever has been confined in the drier.

Instead, cut it out and throw it away. Following these simple measures will help the system last longer. If you require a new filter drier, get help from our support team to make the right purchase.
